Here's the conundrum: this is a very cool book, with some nods and winks to Stephen King's "Gunslinger", our protagonist is caught in dark, deserted world with an even darker past. Historically, well-considered and conceived, it's an apocalyptic tale and the author brings it to your with knuckles bared. It's raw and gritty and also well-produced. I'll recommend this book highly, but with the same observation (complaint) that others have stated: there's such thing as over-reading for emphasis. The narration by the author is perhaps excessive. It would seem that in his enthusiasm to convey emotion and excitement, he takes it a bit over the top. Getting past that, you'll love it.

The story is one that I really want listen to till the end, I am up to chapter 3, it is an excellent story so far. As others have said here unfortunately the narration style can on occasion be quite distracting. I think the Narrator may be trying to get across a sense of tension and excitement by speeding up the reading and changing the tone and volume of the voice, then pauses. I am afraid it only works to a certain degree for me, as often it doesnt seem to be required and is out of proportion with what is actually being said. Although it is far better than listening to a monologue from somebody who sounds a bit bored by the whole thing. Too much of a good thing in the Narration, a bit like using to many exclamation marks when writing or something, but a very good story.
