I’ve read the first four or five chapters so far. Favorites are Wolf and Red man. I liked wolf because it was almost like you were seeing the world from their perspective and how they related to each other and the outside world. also, because trying to descrie something totally alien from that perspective is something few authors can manage. it can be difficult enough sometimes to write about what a human sees or hears or feels, etc. I also liked Red man because it’s basically similar to the scarlet letter where someone is branded for life if they’re even suspected of committing adultary. Being labeled as a sexual predator or pedaphile is pretty much similar to that. You don’t get a permanent brand…yet…but your face gets plastered all over the place which is one step away from being genetically branded as a violator of our current set of taboos. the thought that it could happen to someone who was falsely accused of doing that is a downright scary one. Not only that but the only person who could concievably work out a way to remove the brand is dead which makes it that much harder poor bastard unfortunate enough to be branded for something it turns out later that he didn’t do. Even if nobody died or got blown up or turned into something nasty in this story, you definitely struck a few nerves with Red Man and i wonder if all those rejections from publishers were because none of them had the big brass ones to release something that was too “controversial’ for their liking. the parsec award you got for it though, should probably tell you that those publishers probably had their heads firmly planted up their asses. that’s not hair gel or brown dye they’ve been using.

The only thing wrong with Scott’s writing is that there is not nearly enough of it. His readings are way too good (he uses the term performances quite justly). He should feel guilty whenever he is doing anything else, shame on you Scott Sigler!
